Migration Patterns

In New Corella, there is an increasing number of Overseas Workers from 2010 to 2015. About 122% increase of overseas workers from 2013 to 2014. Many have travelled to other countries to work either as domestic helpers, drivers and office clerks. There are more female overseas workers than male. This is because most jobs applied for abroad are domestic helpers which are mainly a work for females.

There is also an increase in the later years because the Placement Agencies are recruiting overseas workers to get connected with the Public Employment Service Office (PESO) in every municipality. It is easier for those interested persons to apply for abroad because Placement Agencies would lobby the municipality through PESO and they usually conducted Special Recruitment Authority Program every month. The Agency would stay in the Local Government Unit for about 1 to 4 days waiting for the applicants to come. They also conducted information dissemination though radio announcement and sometimes conducted “recorida” in every barangay.

Population Density

In 2000, Barangay Poblacion is considered as the most densely populated barangay with a density of 435 persons/sq.km. In 2015, it grows with a density of 577 persons/sq.km based on its total population of 8,861 and total land area of 1,535.54 hectares. It is followed by Barangay Del Pilar and Mesaoy with a density of 364 persons/sq.km. and 351 persons/sq.km. respectively.

On the other hand, barangay Del Monte has the sparsely populated with 73 persons/sq.km followed by barangay Cabidianan and El Salvador with 78 persons/sq.km. and 81 persons/sq.km respectively.

The figures explained that every household has a reducing lot area as compared to previous years where the households enjoyed large areas of lot for their housing, lawn and other facilities. They could even plant vegetables in their ground because of large areas to occupy. But as population increases, the area allotted for every household decreases. The more people flock to the urban areas the smaller areas they could own. While in the rural areas when less people are living in the barangay, the bigger areas they have. They could build big houses and plant vegetables in their ground and can-do other activities that require large areas.
